Arsenal and Chelsea have been told a decision has been made over Nico Williams’ future at Athletic Bilbao.
The winger has been linked with a move to London this summer with both Mikel Arteta’s team and the Blues among those said to have been interested. Liverpool and Barcelona have also been among the clubs linked.
Williams impressed for Spain at Euro 2024 having scored two goals and provided an assist with his performances playing a key role in their victory in Germany. The 22-year-old also impressed for Bilbao last season with his five goals and 14 assists in 31 appearances leading Bilbao to the Copa de Rey and a spot in the Europa League.

His strong performances for club and country have led to speculation that he could complete a £48million move to the Premier League this summer. But Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio reports that he will now remain at the Basque club.
“Nico Williams, he will stay at Bilbao,” Di Marzio told apuestas-deportivas.es. “Barcelona, this summer they had to decide if they get Dani Olmo or Nico Williams.
“Nico Williams was supposed to leave, Chelsea wanted him a lot and Maresca put him at the head of his list of wingers but then he got Pedro Neto.
“Nico Williams, he decided to stay for another year minimum at Athletic Club. So there’s no chance that he’ll leave Athletic Club in the coming five days.”
Athletic Bilbao’s president Jon Uriarte was also vocal during a press conference in July about the relentless questioning of Williams’ intentions.
“We have a top project with no limits and we’re able to keep top players like Nico Williams at the club,” Uriarte said.
“There are too many questions always asked to Nico on his future as Federation has not been able to protect him. We ask for respect.”
