TERMS AGREED: Man United reach agreement to finally secure first midfield signing as the world-class star arrives for medical

Manchester United fans have eagerly waiting for the club to make a midfield signing this summer having already signed three defenders and one attacker. The Red Devils are close to making one but not in the way that you would think.

The Dan Ashworth influence is already rubbing off on Man Utd in certain transfer moves this summer and it’s quite typical that the ex-Newcastle United sporting director is planning for the club’s future as they continue to reinforce the present.

Man Utd’s proposed move for Arsenal super-talent Chido Obi-Martin is a perfect example of such a signing.

Along those same lines, according to The Athletic, the Red Devils have reached an agreement to sign 2006-born Sekou Kone from Malian side Guidars FC.

Considered a top talent, the 18-year-old is predominantly a defensive midfielder who has the perfect attributes to play as a #6. As per Fabrizio Romano, Kone was on the list of several clubs this summer but Man Utd pipped them to his signature.

Romano also adds that Man Utd view Kone as a part of their long-term plans, much like Chido Obi-Martin. The Malian youngster will be moving to a vastly different country and the Red Devils understand that adaptation could take a while.

If the 18-year-old needs inspiration for a career path, he doesn’t need to look beyond Tottenham star Yves Bissouma. The 27-year-old moved to France with LOSC Lille as a 19-year-old before moving on to Brighton as a 21-year-old and later to Spurs.

Kone will be hoping to have a similar career path. At Man Utd, he’ll find a place that values youngsters and gives them a road to the first team like Garnacho, Diallo and Mainoo in recent years. The only thing the 18-year-old needs to ensure is working hard on his game.

The Red Devils have managed to secure another top talent and the future seems to be in good hands. Let’s hope Kone can develop as expected and become a part of the first team in the years to come.
