‘The club know’: Amid reports of £22m Arsenal bid, ‘incredible’ player’s agent now speaks out

Arsenal have been linked with Italian star Nicolo Zaniolo in recent days as the Gunners prepare for a busy January window.

Mikel Arteta is keen to add some more quality to his squad in January. The Ukrainian winger Mykhaylo Mudryk is thought to be his and Arsenal’s number one target. However, recent reports have also suggested Arsenal could well make a £22m move for Roma star Zaniolo as an alternative.

However, despite these reports, Zaniolo’s agent Claudio Vigorelli has suggested that the ultimate aim for his client is to sign a new deal with Roma, rather than leave.

“There are no clouds on the horizon, we have an excellent rapport with Roma and Tiago Pinto and we’ve agreed that we’ll discuss a contract extension in the future when the club think it’s best,” Vigorelli said.

“Now, the most important thing is to focus on work and performance on the pitch. The club know that we are ready to sit down and negotiate. I repeat that the rapport with Pinto is excellent and Zaniolo is happy in Rome and with fans.”

Zaniolo has been linked with a move to England for some time. Tottenham are known admirers, with Antonio Conte said to a driver behind that interest.

Our View: Zaniolo loves it in Rome

Getting Nicolo Zaniolo to leave the Italian club is always going to be difficult. The Italian seems to love playing for the club and at the moment, there’s no real reason to leave.

Arsenal are well within their rights to draw up a long list of potential signings. And it’s easy to see why they might want to sign Zaniolo as well.

However, much like other potential players on that list, the Gunners might be forced to look elsewhere. Zaniolo, it seems, is intent on staying put with little interest in moving on.
