‘The confidence he has’: Micah Richards says £30m Arsenal man won him over after off-field meet up
Pundit Micah Richards has been singing the praises of Arsenal’s England contingent and admits to being really impressed by Aaron Ramsdale.
The former Sheffield United stopper is among the three goalkeepers selected by England for Qatar. Ramsdale is likely to be third choice, with Nick Pope having that bit more experience and being in good form for Newcastle.
However, writing in his column for the Daily Mail, former Man City defender Richards is in no doubt of Ramsdale’s credentials. The pundit admitting he was left impressed with Ramsdale when he met him off the field recently.
“I met him recently during filming for A League of their Own and I was won over by him. He’s a lad you cannot help but enjoy being around and the confidence he has off the pitch has helped his performances. He goes to Qatar on top of the league with Arsenal and he will be ready if called on,” Richards wrote.
Ramsdale is no stranger to getting involved in fun off the pitch. As well as League of their Own, Ramsdale has been seen on Tube’s Golf Life channel and Ben Foster’s Cycling Goalkeeper over on YouTube. Normally, the Arsenal man is good for a quote or two.
Certainly, it seems he’s left an impression on Richards, both on and off the pitch, since signing for Arsenal for £30m.
Our View: Ramsdale a solid option for England
England have always seemed to be quite well stocked in the goalkeeper department but this seems to be as good as we’ve ever had it right now.
All three of Pickford, Pope and Ramsdale are fine goalkeepers. Behind them you have the likes of Dean Henderson as well, meaning England have some quality in reserve.
Should Ramsdale be called upon, you’d imagine he won’t let England down. He’s been class for Arsenal, and he comes into this tournament full of confidence.
