West Ham United play host to Arsenal in Sunday’s Premier League fixture at the London Stadium.
The Hammers will be desperate to get back to winning ways, but they face a Gunners side in great form and eager to continue challenging for the title.
West Ham have stumbled in recent weeks. They’re yet to win in 2024, lost 3-0 to Manchester United last time out, and were knocked out of the FA Cup by Bristol City.
Meanwhile, the Gunners have won their last three in the Premier League and will be hoping to start a year with four consecutive league wins for the first time since 1935.
However, West Ham have a good record over Arsenal this season. The Hammers have beaten the Gunners twice already, winning 3-1 in the Carabao Cup and 2-0 in the league reverse at the Emirates Stadium.
‘Arsenal can’t drop any points’
Arsenal legend Paul Merson, writing on Sportskeeda, has predicted a narrow 2-1 win for the Gunners.
The Highbury icon believes the Hammers will give it their all, calling the fixture “their cup final”, but that Arsenal should have enough to get all three points.
“Arsenal can’t drop any points between now and the end of the season and are coming on the back of a statement 3-1 win against Liverpool,” said Merson.
“I think they’ll win this one but this is West Ham’s cup final – they’ll be looking forward to facing their London rivals.
“David Moyes’ side haven’t won a Premier League game since beating Arsenal in the reverse fixture nearly a month and a half ago, which shows that they are on a terrible run of form.
“This is where Arsenal are at the moment – they are a very good team, but they need to show their killer instinct and see off games if they are to win their first league title in over 20 years.”

It’s a hard game to call. On paper, and on current form, Arsenal are heavy favourites, but the Hammers are playing at home and know what it takes to beat the Gunners, having done twice already this term.
I feel Arsenal will be more prepared this time round, but I don’t think they’ll do enough to win. I’ll go with both teams sharing the spoils in a 1-1 draw.
