Arsenal plan to make multiple signings to bolster their attack this summer.

The Gunners are prioritising a new striker, but a versatile winger could be signed too.

The Athletic’s Mario Cortegana has now provided an update on Arsenal’s pursuit of Rodrygo.

The journalist has revealed that manager Mikel Arteta is completely in love with the Brazilian.

Arteta has closely studied the 24-year-old’s profile. He is ‘convinced’ that Rodrygo would be a ‘superstar’ at Arsenal, particularly operating on the left wing.

The Gunners boss really wants to sign the Santos graduate this summer.

Arsenal eyeing ambitious move for Rodrygo
Rodrygo had a solid 2024/25 campaign with Los Blancos. He registered 14 goals and 10 assists from 51 appearances across all competitions under manager Carlo Ancelotti.

He was most effective from the left wing with 12 goal contributions from as many games. On the contrary, he managed the same (12 goal involvements) from 30 appearances on the right wing.

It is quite clear that he is most comfortable from the left flank, but he is unlikely to start in the role at Madrid, considering Vinicius Junior is an undisputed starter in the position.

Meanwhile, Rodrygo’s playing time could be hampered by the impending arrival of Argentine wonderkid Franco Mastantuono. He is scheduled to join from River Plate on August 15.

According to AS, Los Blancos manager Xabi Alonso sees the 17-year-old as an immediate starter. He will be guaranteed the right wing position ahead of Rodrygo, Brahim Diaz and Arda Guler.

This could be a potential boost for the Gunners in their pursuit of Rodrygo. The £76 million-rated star could be persuaded to join Arsenal if he is assured starts from his preferred left wing role.

A summer deal may ultimately depend on the player pushing for a transfer, as Madrid are unlikely to place him on the transfer market.
