‘Trophyless like Tottenham this season’: Serge Aurier publicly mocks Arsenal fans on Instagram after Steve Cooper’s side survive relegation
Serge Aurier has sent a message to his ‘Tottenham family’ following Nottingham Forest’s 1-0 win over Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal on Saturday evening.
Steve Cooper’s Nottingham Forest confirmed their Premier League survival with those three points, but in the meantime, they ended Arsenal’s Premier League title hopes, with Manchester City winning their fifth crown in six seasons.
Former Tottenham defender Serge Aurier started the game and he mocked his old rivals via his Instagram story shortly afterwards: ‘If we are not champions. They will not be champions too. My Spurs family’, added with heart emojis.
Whilst Arsenal would have hoped to have, at least, taken the title race to the last day of the season. Many knew it was up and has been over for a number of weeks now.
It’s hard enough stopping Pep Guardiola’s side, but when they turn into this winning machine towards the back end of the season, then you can’t even afford a minor slip-up.
But from their 3-3 draw to relegated Southampton to their most recent defeat, those at the Emirates haven’t helped themselves for a number of weeks and just made life easier for those at the Etihad.
ARSENAL RETURN TO CHAMPIONS LEAGUE, SPURS TO MISS OUT ON EUROPE?
Whilst Arsenal will still be licking their wounds, and it’s going to take some time yet to get over it, they need to remember that they will be playing Champions League football next season.
The same can’t be said for Spurs, who are now at risk of missing out on European football altogether after losing to Brentford hours before their rivals lost.
Finishing in the top seven is now out of their hands, with both Brighton and Aston Villa in pole position to stay in front of them ahead of the final day of the campaign.
