Varane, Mount, Amrabat, Shaw – Manchester United injury news and return dates ahead of Bayern fixture

Manchester United have several injury problems to contend with right now as Erik ten Hag and his mis-firing side switch up focus to Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

United were without eight men – Tom Heaton, Raphael Varane, Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia, Kobbie Mainoo, Sofyan Amrabat, Mason Mount and Amad Diallo – for their 3-1 defeat vs Brighton on Saturday afternoon. However, during his post-match press conference, Ten Hag said one comeback is imminent.

The manager was tight-lipped on who that might be, though, as United prepare to jet-off to the Allianz Arena on Wednesday night. Here’s our latest round-up from the treatment table at Carrington and possible return dates for United’s eight injured players.

Return date: TBC

What Ten Hag has said: “He had complaints, we didn’t want to risk him, we have Harry Maguire, we have Victor Lindelof, who could replace him, so we don’t take a risk. We have to wait.”

Mason Mount
Injury: Muscular

Return date: TBC

What Ten Hag has said: “Maybe, maybe one player [will return for the Bayern game], but I think Munich is a little bit too short. I go to Burnley and the week after, players will return.”

Sofyan Amrabat
Injury: Unspecified

Possible return date: September 20 vs Bayern (A)

What Ten Hag has said: “He came back unfortunately with injury, so he was not available [against Brighton], but on the short notice [soon], yes, I’m sure we will all get joy from them [new signings].”

Luke Shaw
Injury: Muscular

Predicted return date: October/November

What Ten Hag has said: “We can’t do that [put a definite timescale on returns]. It’s personal these days, they will be out for some period absent. I think Luke [Shaw] will be longer and Mason [Mount].”

Also recovering at Carrington: Tom Heaton, Tyrell Malacia, Kobbie Mainoo, Amad Diallo.
