Xhaka started against PSV yesterday and even wore the captain’s armband.
He was sensational from start to finish, and his goal in the second half with his right foot helped the Gunners seal qualification to the next round of the Europa League.
Arsenal now need just one point from their last two games to win their group. That is an amazing position to be in, and Xhaka and co deserve immense praise.
The Swiss international took to Instagram last night to celebrate his goal and Arsenal’s victory.
Arsenal loanee Rekik commented “Very strong”, and Djourou, who spent 10 years on the Gunners’ books, wrote: “Brutality.”
Our View:
The likes of Gabriel Jesus, William Saliba and Bukayo Saka have earned a lot of praise from fans and pundits since the start of this season, but Xhaka may well be Arsenal’s most important player.
The Swiss international has been outstanding so far.
Nobody would’ve imagined him being an attacking threat every single game, but he has settled into his number eight role brilliantly, and Arsenal are reaping the rewards.
Xhaka deserves immense praise for turning his career around at the Emirates, and if he keeps this up, he will become a hero to many Arsenal fans – more so than he already is.
