It feels like Frenkie de Jong has been mentioned in relation to Man Utd more times than some actual Red Devils players. Such has been the club’s interest in signing the Barcelona midfielder and it looks set to continue this summer.

We covered a story revealing that Man Utd were ready to bid £42.9m to sign the La Liga midfielder. The 27-year-old Barcelona midfielder earns a whopping €1,109,808 per week on his current deal, something the Red Devils cannot even imagine handing out.

Even if Frenkie was to come to Man Utd this summer, he would have to make a significant financial effort. That said, the Dutchman has not shown on sign of inclination so far that would like to continue his career at Old Trafford.

This however has never deterred Man Utd from making an effort to sign him. As per SPORT [image at the end], the Red Devils will ‘spare no effort’ to sign Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona before the end of the deadline despite the player being injured.

Having already signed De Ligt and Mazraoui, the Catalan media outlet claim that Ten Hag wants to get De Jong as he dreams of reuniting the 2019 Ajax squad that reached the semi finals of the Champions League in 2019.

No one seems to know what is going on with Frenkie’s situation at the Catalan club. He has been injured for a significant period of time and looks no closer to returning to action. Sport state that Barcelona would consider a £51.4m (60 million euros) bid for him.

At 27, it is now or never for Man Utd to sign Frenkie de Jong. It should happen this summer and if doesn’t happen, the Red Devils must move on once and for all.

The squad doesn’t need the Dutchman’s profile anymore since the breakthrough of Kobbie Mainoo. Instead, United need more of a play breaker, who can tackle.

Should Frenkie decide to leave Barcelona this summer, he might want to move to a Champions League club and Man Utd cannot offer that. Let’s see what the coming weeks hold for his future.
