”we started our football journey together,Now He wants to leave Bundesliga to join Arsenal’: Bayern Munich Star Jamal Musiala confirmed His £40m teenage best friend is set to join Arsenal next week over Man city
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta could look to bolster his ranks in the January transfer window.
The Gunners have been great for most of the campaign, but some glaring issues remain.
As well as needing a more clinical striker, Arsenal could do with improving their defence amid a spate of injuries.
Jurrien Timber, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Thomas Partey are out injured, while Oleksandr Zinchenko is struggling for form.
Now, according to Dean Jones, Arsenal are eyeing a top Bundesliga talent who can play at centre-back and left-back.
The player in question is Borussia Dortmund’s Nico Schlotterbeck, who has been a regular for his side and is also a Germany international.
Jones wrote on GiveMeSport that the 24-year-old is one of the “other considerations” for Arsenal.
This is alongside the likes of Matthijs De Ligt, Marc Guehi and ‘top target’ Goncalo Inacio.
However, Jones acknowledged that Schlotterbeck, De Light and Guehi are not “likely to become attainable in the coming window”.
Meanwhile, Inacio’s £52million release clause may be a bit steep for Arsenal, with regards to Financial Fair Play rules.
Arsenal eyeing ‘very versatile’ Nico Schlotterbeck
Schlotterbeck is an interesting option for Arsenal. Although they may struggle to sign him in January, it’s worth keeping an eye out for speculation both at the start of the year and in the summer.
The 24-year-old ticks a lot of boxes for the Gunners. He’s extremely talented, versatile, solid at the back, dangerous in attack, and is still very young.
The Bundesliga media team wrote an article in which they noted that, as of March 2023, Schlotterbeck boasted a ‘league-leading 68 percent tackle success rate’ and averaged 88 phases of possession per 90 minutes.
Schlotterbeck’s goal and assist tally is also very impressive for a defender. Throughout his career, the £22million man has registered 29 goals and 14 assists from 237 outings at senior and youth level.
Another Bundesliga media team article likened the reported Arsenal target to Mats Hummels and shared quotes from Hansi Flick in which he called Schlotterbeck a “very versatile” talent.
