Erling Haaland told Mikel Arteta to “stay humble” after Manchester City’s draw with Arsenal – triggering his furious on-field showdown with Gabriel Jesus.
The two strikers were involved in an angry clash after the full-time whistle. The game itself was an incident-hit affair that saw numerous stoppages, Leandro Trossard sent off and John Stones net an injury-time equaliser for Pep Guardiola’s side.
But it ended on a sour note amid Haaland and Jesus’ clash and it has now been revealed what was said between the pair. New footage showed the Man City star saying to Arsenal boss Arteta: “Stay humble eh, stay humble eh.”
Jesus took exception to that and said “come,” before Haaland replied “what, what, what, what”. The Arsenal frontman said: “Come, why you saying, you talking.”
“Talking about what, I wasn’t talking f******* clown,” Haaland replied before Jesus said “Don’t touch me,” as Haaland attempted to calm down hostilities. The exchange then ended with Haaland angrily saying: “What you talking about? Get the f**** away from me you f****** clown”.
Arteta then attempted to intervene as he called his striker over by saying: “Gabby gabby gabby.” The incident was not the only clash involving Haaland during the game.
Shortly before his furious clash with Jesus, he appeared to throw the ball at the back of Gabriel Magalhaes’ head as City celebrated Stones’ equaliser. But the Norwegian striker has escaped a ban.
VAR reviewed the incident and no action was taken, and Haaland will not be charged with violent conduct.
Ex-Arsenal star Ian Wright slammed the striker for his actions. Taking to Instagram, he said: “The one thing that boiled me up properly was Haaland’s coward’s move. Throwing the ball at Gabi’s head when he’s not looking.
“When Gabi’s back’s turned to him. Real coward’s move. Gabi would look him in the eye, you know. That’s what bothered me more than anything else. I thought you [Haaland] were bigger than that.”
