Wow: VAR may have missed something huge in Arsenal v Newcastle

Referee Andy Madley and VAR missed a big penalty call in Arsenal’s match with Newcastle United on Tuesday night.

THE LOWDOWN: THE TWO SIDES COULDN’T BE SEPARATED

It finished 0-0 in north London with the points shared between the Gunners and the Magpies. Arsenal had 66.8% of possession, but Newcastle had more clear-cut chances in the fixture.

A total of nine yellow cards were given out during the course of the game which was keenly contested throughout.

However, Mikel Arteta was left fuming with Madley at full-time, as he believes that his side should have had two penalties over the course of the game.

THE LATEST: ARSENAL SHOULD’VE BEEN GIVEN A PENALTY CAUSED BY A DAN BURN FOUL

Gunners defender Gabriel took to his Twitter account to show that Newcastle man Dan Burn had grabbed hold of him and brought him down.

It’s clear that Arteta has plenty of reason to be furious with the officiating on this occasion, as it certainly looks a foul on the Brazilian and it could’ve significantly changed the outcome of the match.

THE VERDICT: MADLEY HAD A VERY POOR DAY AT THE OFFICE

Both sides will have been very furious with the job that Andy Madley put in for their match, as he failed to get some big decisions right.

The free-kick that led to the foul on Gabriel that was missed shouldn’t have happened in the first place, as Joelinton cleanly won the ball but was given a yellow card and a free-kick against him.

Madley was claimed to have lost control of the game, while he was also mocked for his decision-making with one video from none other than Newcastle’s shirt sponsors poking fun at the number of yellow cards that were given out.

It’s safe to say not many Newcastle or Arsenal fans will want to see him officiating their games any time soon.
