‘Xhaka replacement’: Arteta tells Arsenal to sign £165,000-a-week player to replace Granit Xhaka in the summer
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta wants the Gunners to sign Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, according to a report.
The Athletic have reported that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta personally wants Manchester City and Germany international midfielder Ilkay Gundogan at the Emirates Stadium for next season and beyond.
Arteta worked with the 32-year-old when he was a coach at City, and the Spaniard is “driving” the Gunners’ “concrete interest” in the £165,000-a-week (SalarySport) midfielder,
The Athletic have reported that Arteta has “identified” Gundogan “as the ideal replacement” for Granit Xhaka, who is very likely to leave for Bayer Leverkusen in the summer transfer window.
Gundogan has other options, including Barcelona, while Manchester City also want to keep him, according to the report.
Ilkay Gundogan would be great for Arsenal
In our opinion, Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan would be a brilliant signing for Arsenal in the summer transfer window.
The 32-year-old is one of the best midfielders around, and we believe that he would make the Gunners better in the middle of the park.
And he would be a free signing for Arsenal.
However, we do not think that Gundogan will join Arsenal in the summer transfer window.
The midfielder has just won the Premier League title again with Manchester City.
City want the former Borussia Dortmund star to stay, and we believe that if the midfielder does leave the Citizens, then it will be for a club outside the Premier League, such as Barcelona.
