‘You go’: PL Manager hints ‘incredible’ £40m star player will be sold now after claims Arsenal want to sign him
Arsenal have been heavily linked with a move to sign Leicester City star Youri Tielemans for over a year now, and Brendan Rodgers has had his say on Foxes stars like the Belgian who don’t have long left on their contracts.
Tielemans has been an excellent player ever since he moved to the King Power from Monaco. He has often been among the best midfielders in the country, and everyone expected him to leave the Foxes in last summer’s transfer window.
Arsenal seemed like the likeliest destination, but no move materialised then. That, however, could change in this window.
Brendan Rodgers hints Arsenal target Youri Tielemans could be sold this month
Leicester have put themselves in a really tricky position in terms of players’ contracts.
Seven of their senior players – Tielemans, Caglar Soyuncu, Daniel Amartey, Ayoze Perez, Nampalys Mendy, Jonny Evans and Ryan Bertrand – have all entered the final six months of their deals and could leave as free agents in the summer.
Tielemans, of course, is the biggest name on the list and when asked about the above seven players, Rodgers made it clear that he will let them go if they continue to demand more money than what’s being offered by the Foxes.
He said, as quoted by The Athletic: “I think that if someone doesn’t want to be here or someone wants too much money to be here, we have to be brave enough to say ‘listen, thank you very much and on you go’, because we are not a club with masses of resources that can facilitate every single player’s need, especially from a financial side.
“A number of these guys are down to their last year.
“We said before we’d like them to stay but there has to be a point in time when what they want is too demanding for us as a club and if the time is right, they have to move on, then we have to do that and then look forward.”
Our View:
Fabrizio Romano revealed last week that Tielemans is still appreciated by folks at Arsenal. He also claimed that a late move for the Belgian cannot be ruled out and is one to keep an eye on.
The Gunners are currently working on a deal to sign Mykhaylo Mudryk, while rumours have revealed that Atletico Madrid striker Joao Felix is also on their radar.
Those two deals seem like the priority at the moment, but they could do with a bit of help in midfield as well.
If Tielemans really is available for a bargain fee in the coming weeks, it would make a lot of sense for Arsenal to swoop in. However, signing him for free in just five months’ time is an attractive option as well.
