“You narrowly escaped defeat and you’re happy…If not because of Arsenal TWO players who are unstoppable to my players I would have say Arsenal doesn’t have good players”: Pep Gaurdiorla blow hot on Mikel Arteta for celebrating Aston Villa win

Piers Morgan took umbrage with Mikel Arteta’s insistence that Arsenal do not need a No 9 before the end of the transfer window.

Whether the Gunners will recruit a new out-and-out striker has been one of the headline talking points in this summer’s transfer window.

Arteta’s side finished runners-up for the second successive season in the Premier League last term, and despite Arsenal scoring 91 goals in the campaign – their most in the Premier League era – much has been made of the team’s need for a clinical goalscorer to lead the line.

Arsenal were linked with a move to Slovenian international Benjamin Sesko earlier in the summer in a bid to help boost their chances of a first Premier League trophy in two decades. But the RB Leipzig man has since committed his future to the German club until 2029.

The Gunners remain linked with other forward options, including Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyökeres and Napoli’s Victor Osimhen.

Queried on the subject before his side’s match against Aston Villa on Saturday, Arteta was firm that the talent at his disposal is capable of carrying the goal-scoring load. “New number 9? It’s not a question that we ask ourselves because we have some great strikers,” he said.

“We fully trust our players, we want to get better… but going to try with players that are already with us.”
