Manchester United are inching closer to bringing in a new midfielder, just days after wrapping up the 2025/26 campaign.
United played their final game of the season at Brighton, thrashing the Seagulls 3-0. However, the result had no bearing on the Red Devils’ position in the Premier League table or their European fate.
With Champions League football secured early in May, INEOS have already laid the groundwork for midfield signings.
Manchester United set to finalise Ederson deal
At the moment, Manchester United’s focus seems to be on sealing the deal for Atalanta midfield dynamo Ederson.
Over the weekend, Fabrizio Romano reported that Ederson has paused talks with all other suitors in order to give priority to United, who are believed to be in advanced talks with Atalanta to find an agreement over the Brazilian’s transfer fee.
Now, Theatre of Red’s Shaun Connolly claims that it is “growing increasingly likely” that Ederson will join Manchester United, and a deal could be “finalised within the next 48 hours.”
Connolly adds that United officials believe that, in the Brazil international, they are acquiring “a versatile talent with a unique physical skill set that is tailor-made for English football.”
The 6ft-tall midfielder is a relentless runner and a strong tackler. The 26-year-old tends to receive the ball from defenders and find his more dangerous teammates in the final third.
He might not be able to thread passes into the box, but Ederson is efficient and intelligent with the ball at his feet.
Manchester United want to make marquee signing
The Atalanta leader, who will enter the final 12 months of his contract in Bergamo this summer, is valued in the region of £35 million. As such, he may be considered a market opportunity.
