Slavia Prague manager Jindřich Trpišovský has praised Arsenal’s defensive strength and organisation following his side’s 2-1 defeat to the Gunners in the Champions League.

Arsenal travelled to Prague on Wednesday night, November 4, and secured an important victory thanks to first-half goals from Noni Madueke and Viktor Gyökeres. However, the Premier League side had to work hard to protect their advantage after Slavia improved considerably following the break.

Speaking after the match, Trpišovský highlighted the quality of Arsenal’s team, particularly the partnership between Gabriel Magalhães and Declan Rice. The Slavia manager described both players as phenomenal and acknowledged the difficulty of facing Mikel Arteta’s side.

The Czech manager also praised Arsenal’s collective spirit, explaining that the players consistently support one another and demonstrate a strong desire to win.

His comments underline the progress Arsenal have made defensively under Arteta. The Gunners have developed a reputation for being difficult to break down, with their defenders, midfielders and goalkeeper working together to limit opposition opportunities.

Gabriel was particularly important during the encounter. The Brazilian defender produced crucial interventions when Slavia increased the pressure in the second half, including clearances that prevented the hosts from scoring earlier.

David Raya also played an important role in securing the victory. The Spanish goalkeeper produced several important saves, including an outstanding intervention to turn Oskar Kubiak’s header onto the post.

Slavia eventually found a way through when Wiktor Nowak scored in the closing moments, but Arsenal managed to hold on and take all three points.

Trpišovský admitted that his team struggled to deal with Arsenal during the opening half. He explained that the Gunners controlled important areas of the pitch and used their movement intelligently to create problems for the home side.

He also compared the challenge of facing Arsenal to fighting legendary boxer Mike Tyson, describing the London club as an extremely difficult opponent.

According to the Slavia manager, Arsenal’s strength comes not only from individual quality but also from their organisation and determination. He particularly admired how the players help one another and remain focused on winning.

The result was another demonstration of Arsenal’s defensive resilience, although the second-half performance showed that Arteta still has areas to improve.

Slavia changed their pressing approach and formation after the interval, forcing Arsenal into uncomfortable situations. The home side created several opportunities and made the final stages of the match difficult for the visitors.

Arteta will be pleased with the victory, but he also acknowledged that his players needed to manage the second half better. Arsenal had opportunities to score more goals before the break, and their failure to extend the advantage allowed Slavia to remain in the contest.

Nevertheless, the defensive contributions of Gabriel, Raya and the rest of the team proved decisive.

For Arsenal supporters, Trpišovský’s assessment will be encouraging because recognition from an opposing manager reflects the challenge the Gunners present to teams across Europe.

Arsenal will now look to carry their defensive strength into their upcoming fixtures as they continue competing on multiple fronts.

The victory over Slavia provides another positive result in Europe, but maintaining concentration for the full 90 minutes will be essential if Arteta’s team want to achieve their ambitions this season.
