TRANSFER BLOW: Arsenal target spotted at airport, says goodbye as he travels to sign for LONDON rival – all paperwork signed and sealed
Leeds United are close to signing Weston McKennie and the Juventus midfielder has been spotted at the airport heading for England.
Goal Italia reporter Romeo Agresti has posted a video of McKennie at Turin airport as he prepares to join the Whites.
McKennie offered a short message to Juventus fans, thanking them for their support whilst suggesting that he will see them soon.
Sky Italia report that McKennie will be signing on loan for around £1million with a £31million purchase option included in the deal.
Having already signed Maximilian Wober and Georginio Rutter this month, McKennie’s addition makes this a very impressive window.
Leeds would then have the ability to field an engine room of McKennie, Tyler Adams and Brenden Aaronson – all United States internationals.
ARSENAL INTEREST SHOWS LEEDS UNITED COUP FOR MCKENNIE
McKennie will bring real energy to the Leeds midfield and his understanding of how Adams plays should really help his settling-in period.
This feels like a real coup for Leeds and the rival interest for him just goes to show the kind of talent Leeds are securing.
Corriere dello Sport reported just days ago that Arsenal were trying to hijack McKennie’s move to Leeds.
The Gunners are in for another midfielder ahead of the transfer deadline and seemingly fancied bringing McKennie to London.
Yet with Arsenal now focusing on Moises Caicedo, Leeds have been able to wrap up the McKennie move without any drama.
McKennie has been heavily linked with the likes of Chelsea and Tottenham in recent months yet it Leeds who have pulled off a deal.
This is the kind of transfer window Leeds needed; a focus on quality additions that can hopefully help right now as well as in the future.
Adams and Jesse Marsch surely played a huge in convincing their fellow American to join, and with the midfielder expected to be in the UK tonight, a deal is very close.
