Brazil head coach Carlo Ancelotti has praised Bruno Guimaraes, describing the Arsenal midfielder as an important player for the national team and highlighting the influence he has developed within the squad.
Guimaraes has continued to establish himself as one of Brazil’s key midfielders under Ancelotti. His importance was particularly clear during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he started all five of Brazil’s matches and became one of the team’s main creative outlets.
The midfielder’s role has also grown alongside his experience. The Brazilian Football Confederation reported in September that Guimaraes had reached 48 appearances for the national team and had taken on a leadership role while Brazil began a new phase under Ancelotti.
Ancelotti Highlights Guimaraes’ Importance
Ancelotti’s praise for Guimaraes came after the midfielder produced another influential performance for Brazil. During the World Cup knockout victory over Japan, Guimaraes provided the assist for Gabriel Martinelli’s late winner.
Following the match, Ancelotti described Guimaraes as a very important and consistent player who makes a strong contribution both defensively and offensively. The Italian coach also praised his character, saying that the midfielder has a “very big heart.”
The comments underline how highly Ancelotti values the Arsenal midfielder. Rather than seeing Guimaraes simply as a player responsible for breaking up opposition attacks, the Brazil manager has given him responsibilities in possession and expects him to help create opportunities.
Guimaraes Becoming a Leader
The midfielder’s development has also been noticeable within the Brazil dressing room.
With almost 50 international appearances, Guimaraes is now among the more experienced players in Ancelotti’s squad. The CBF recently reported that he sees part of his responsibility as helping younger players settle into the national team and passing on the confidence that senior players previously gave him.
That leadership role could become increasingly important as Brazil rebuild their squad following the 2026 World Cup.
Guimaraes has already demonstrated that he can operate at the highest level. His ability to combine defensive work, ball progression and creativity gives Ancelotti an option capable of influencing different phases of a match.
Arsenal Move Adds Another Chapter
Guimaraes’ status has also changed at club level after Arsenal completed his transfer from Newcastle United in August 2026.
The Premier League confirmed that Arsenal signed the Brazilian midfielder to strengthen their midfield options ahead of their title defence. The league’s analysis highlighted his defensive qualities, including his ability to win ground duels, make tackles and recover possession.
His arrival has given Mikel Arteta another experienced midfielder capable of contributing at both ends of the pitch.
For Brazil, meanwhile, his move to Arsenal gives Guimaraes another opportunity to compete regularly at the highest level while remaining an important part of Ancelotti’s plans.
A Major Figure for Brazil
Ancelotti’s comments suggest that Guimaraes is no longer simply one of several midfield options competing for a place in the Brazil squad. His performances and experience have made him an important part of the team’s structure.
At the World Cup, he finished with four assists, leading the tournament in that category at the time, and played a decisive role in Brazil’s progression.
As Brazil look toward the next generation, Guimaraes could therefore become one of the senior figures around whom Ancelotti builds his midfield.
With his Arsenal career now beginning and his responsibilities with Brazil increasing, the midfielder enters an important stage of his career.
Ancelotti’s praise provides further recognition of the role Guimaraes has earned within the national team and reflects the growing importance of the Brazilian midfielder to both Arsenal and his country.
