Returning stars and squad depth
Arsenal’s final pre-season friendly against Como offered clear signs that Mikel Arteta’s key World Cup contingent is edging closer to full involvement. Eberechi Eze started and looked sharp, while David Raya and Mikel Merino were named among the substitutes, with Raya introduced at half-time.
Even Declan Rice, though not in the matchday squad, was present pitch-side during the warm-up. These appearances and near-involvements suggest the squad is gradually regaining its full strength ahead of the Community Shield against Manchester City.
Bruno Guimarães debut and fan reception
New £75 million signing Bruno Guimarães made his long-awaited Arsenal debut from the bench after the interval. The Brazilian midfielder was greeted with warm applause and loud “Bruno, Bruno” chants from the Emirates crowd, a marked contrast to the boos he once received when facing the Gunners as a Newcastle player.

Despite creating a host of first-half opportunities that could easily have put the game beyond Como, Arsenal were wasteful in front of goal. The lack of clinical edge proved costly when Martin Baturina equalised before half-time. Improving their conversion rate will be a priority for Arteta as competitive fixtures begin.
