Arsenal defender Ben White was “walking very gingerly” following the game against Napoli on Wednesday, according to The Telegraph reporter Sam Dean.
The fullback has had his fair share of injuries over the past few years, but he has been able to play every few days since the start of the season, having provided cover for the absent Jurrien Timber.
Supporters on X are not quite sure what to make of these latest reports. Some have played down suggestions that he has picked up a potential injury, while others are concerned that White could be set for a spell on the sidelines:
Timber is close to making his return
White’s competition for the right-back spot has not been available since the start of this campaign. Jurrien Timber underwent surgery on a troublesome groin problem earlier this summer.
Rehabilitation has taken longer than anticipated, but he is closing in on a return to full fitness, and he is likely to make the matchday squad for one of the fixtures before the international break.
Timber’s comeback could be timely if White does need to come out of the firing line.
Arsenal’s decision to sign Konsa looks justified
One of the major reasons why the Premier League champions decided to spend £55m on Ezri Konsa is down to his ability to play both right-back and centre-half.
With both White and Timber having faced injury issues in recent years, it does make sense to have another player in the squad who is comfortable in that position.
While Konsa does prefer to play in the centre of defence, he did start 44 times for Aston Villa on the right-hand side of a back four over a seven-year period. He won’t be a fish out of water if he does get minutes there over the coming weeks and months.
