BREAKING NEWS: I’m a strong guy yes I know but what the doctor told me this morning about my injury has left me really devastated”, Jurrien Timber reveals what the doctor told him this morning about his injury that made him cry

Jurrien Timber is on the verge of a return for Arsenal ahead of Newcastle United this weekend after missing the club’s last six games, with the defender now understood to be edging closer to a comeback.

There has been little information around how long Timber was likely to be sidelined after he as taken off with a groin problem, and Arsenal have kept details to a minimum since his injury setback.

The defender was forced off in the first half of the 2-0 win over Everton after a challenge with Iliman Ndiaye clipped his right ankle.

He received treatment and attempted to carry on, but had to come off with Cristhian Mosquera replacing him.

Since then, Mikel Arteta has offered only limited updates.

Ahead of the game against Manchester City, he said of Timber, Martin Odegaard and Riccardo Calafiori: “We will try again. Some players are quite close, but the turnaround is short, so we will try tomorrow to push everybody, and if they are in good condition, they will be part of us, and if not, they won’t. They haven’t been in the last few weeks, unfortunately.”

Only Odegaard was fit enough to be involved from that trio in the end, but the picture now appears more encouraging for Timber.

He and Calafiori are both seemingly closing in on returns, even if they remain doubts for the visit of Newcastle.

Like Bukayo Saka, Timber is not yet certain to be available, but Arsenal appear to have one eye on getting their remaining injured players [Mikel Merino excluded as his season seems to be over] back in time for the first leg of the Champions League semi-final against Atletico Madrid on 29 April.
