‘I was told’: Arsenal can sign ‘superstar’ winger tonight for £10m cheaper than at start of week – journalist
Dean Jones has claimed that Arsenal could sign Pedro Neto for £50million, as opposed to £60million, in the last hours of the transfer window.
The Gunners have been heavily linked with the Wolves ace in recent weeks.
Early in August, the Daily Express reported that Arsenal have a ‘long-standing interest’ in Neto.
Later on in the month, The Athletic‘s David Ornstein said the 22-year-old was Arsenal’s top target.
And this morning, football.london claimed Neto ‘would be open to the move’ if Wolves were to accept a big-money offer from Arsenal.
However, they also said a deal is ‘unlikely’ to happen ahead of tonight’s 11pm deadline.
This is due to Wolves potentially not having enough time to source a suitable replacement.
Jones, writing on GiveMeSport, has claimed that the Molineux outfit has actually lowered their price tag for Neto.
However, he’s unsure whether Arsenal will still push on with a concrete bid.
“It’s not going to be an easy one to do at this point,” wrote Jones. “But I’m told that actually, it would be £50million.
“Earlier on in the week, I was told they would hold out for up to £60million.
“But there seems to be a feeling that actually, Wolves would take £50million for him at this point.
“So, if Arsenal are willing to throw that much money into the market in these late stages, then it can happen.
“But again, we’ve got to presume that it’s unlikely until they actually make that bid.”
“Always on the front foot”
Neto would be a superb signing for Arsenal given his talent, attitude, and potential.
Arsenal legend Thierry Henry praised the Portuguese talent in March last year.
“I like him a lot,” Henry said on Sky Sports, via the Birmingham Mail, during the Wolves v Liverpool match coverage.
“Especially the situation that he found himself in with (Raul) Jimenez being injured and Diogo Jota now playing for the other side tonight.
“It’s not easy to have everything on your shoulders. What I like is he’s not scared to beat people on the outside. I like it, he can cross with his right, finish with his left.
“He’s always looking to have a go and attack the defender – always on the front foot.
“It’s not easy to do this at such a young age, in a team where you’re not often in possession and dominating games. I think he’s performed extremely well.”
Meanwhile, Jamie Redknapp has called Neto “sensational“, and Jamie Carragher has backed him to become “a real superstar“.
