Manchester United

HERE WE GO: Manchester United have reached final agreement to sign 25yr old best playmaker in Europe, Negotiation have been ongoing behind close door since yesterday and now is a done deal

Ruben Amorim is ready to shape the Manchester United squad into his vision after a disastrous season and early transfer activity suggests he’s found the player to fill the biggest hole.

Man Utd are moving early in the transfer market like never before, signing Enzo Kana-Biyik, progressing on Matheus Cunha’s transfer, and targeting Liam Delap.

If, as expected, United seal the deal for Cunha and Delap, their plans after these three signings are murky.

Fabrizio Romano recently revealed that United will target another No. 10 in addition to Cunha. That suggests that Ruben Amorim has found his Geovany Quenda at Old Trafford.

Ruben Amorim’s Geovany Quenda at Man Utd

In Amorim’s system, the value of a wing-back is arguably the most out of all positions.

Therefore, it is curious to see that United’s focus is on signing two attacking midfielders, when they already have two untouchables to play those positions (Bruno Fernandes and Amad).

Add Mason Mount to the equation, a clear Amorim favourite, and things get much dicier, especially in a campaign where there’s no midweek European football.

However, what United’s transfer activity suggests is that Amorim is convinced that Amad’s future at Man Utd in the long term is at right wing-back.

Amad shone at right wing-back again vs Aston Villa in the last game of the season, with his attacking runs, ball progressing through dribbles, and the ability to operate in close spaces standing out.

At Sporting, Geovany Quenda wreaked havoc after being refashioned into a wing-back by Amorim. Quenda came through the ranks as a left-footed right-winger (sounds familiar?), before being converted into a flying wing-back.

In an ideal Amorim XI, attack-minded defenders or wingers will play as wing-backs instead of natural full-backs. United targeting two No. 10s proves that Amorim is ready to unleash Amad as his full-time wing-back.

Man Utd preparing extremely attacking XI with Amad decision

When Cunha’s signing is official and United manage to get Mbeumo too, then Amorim’s team will have an extremely attacking look to it.

The Man Utd manager has repeatedly stressed that the formation doesn’t matter as long as the roles are attacking, and that’s shaping up to be the case.

Cunha will start alongside Mbeumo as the two No. 10s behind Liam Delap, while Bruno Fernandes will become the deeper midfielder alongside Manuel Ugarte.

Amad and Patrick Dorgu will be the wing-backs, while Leny Yoro and Ayden Heaven will be alongside Matthijs de Ligt as adventurous wide centre-backs.

In just three signings, the whole look of the United attack seems transformed, much of it down to Amorim finally unleashing Amad at wing-back.

Of course, none of those signings are confirmed yet so there’s a measure of getting ahead of ourselves right now but the intention is clear.
