Viktor Gyokeres to Manchester United is heating up all of a sudden and now his replacement at Sporting, Conrad Harder, has urged him to move while claiming that he’s ready to take his spot.

After Man Utd’s loss in the Europa League final, it felt like the ship for Viktor Gyokeres to reunite with Ruben Amorim had sailed.

However, after Liam Delap’s move didn’t happen, United’s links to Gyokeres have started to take shape.

New contacts for Gyokeres were made recently and his potential replacement at Sporting, Conrad Harder, has now given his take on the whole situation

Gyokeres was widely expected to be the first name to come off the striker market this summer because of his age profile and scoring pedigree.

However, not only have the links to him gone quiet, but the player himself has remained tight-lipped over talks of a move.

Arsenal looked close to Gyokeres, while United looked unlikely to sign him, but that has all seemed to change in recent days.

Arsenal are moving for Benjamin Sesko, clearing a major obstacle for United, while Gyokeres is keen to move to United provided they can make the finances work.

If and when he goes, Sporting will look at Danish international Conrad Harder to replace him who scored 13 and assisted 10 in 23 90-minutes over the season.

Harder, in an interview with TV2 Sport, via Zerozero, has urged Gyokeres to try something new after ‘already proving’ himself in the Portuguese league.

He said: “I’ve been waiting for a year to have regular playing time, so I feel ready and I’m looking forward to it. I don’t think about the fact that it’s Viktor that I have to replace, but the truth is that it’s a huge void that I have to fill.

“I want to play, but Viktor is a really cool guy and I feel really good with him. Now he has to try something new too. He has already proved everything he has to prove in the league. He has proved that he needs to be at a higher level, so maybe it is time to do that.”

Air of inevitability around Gyokeres to Man Utd
At the risk of jinxing it, the way the whole situation around Gyokeres has developed is giving an air of inevitability to it.

Competitors for his signature have started to look elsewhere, the Champions League factor has slowly been made redundant, and the club is clearly in touch with the player.

It’s impossible to shake off the feeling that Ruben Amorim has asked Gyokeres to wait for United if he can, and the player has obliged.

If United can engineer the exits of Alejandro Garnacho, Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, and Antony, then the wage savings alone will make Gyokeres plausible, let alone the transfer fees on top.

That is the noise coming from media reports as well, with Gyokeres asking United to make a move for him if they think it’s financially possible.

The player is interested, the path is clearing for United, and they know what they need to do to make it happen. The days ahead after securing an agreement for Bryan Mbeumo should be very interesting.
